这两个词都可指从事政治活动或精于政治事务的人。politician特别强调能够与人民相处、为国家服务的人,在美式英语中, politician常带轻蔑之意,指毫无原则和理想、只考虑个人或自己政党利益的人,常含有贬义; statesman为褒义词,指有超人的判断力、精明能干、善于治国安邦的人。
