这两个词都有“电报”的意思,指一般的电报时,可互换使用。例如:
We can't decode a cable〔telegram〕.我们不能破译电报。
He wanted to send a cable〔telegram〕.他想发一份电报。
它们的区别在于：
1.telegram特指通过电线信号拍发的普通电报。例如:
I have received a telegram from you.我已收到你的来电。
These messages are called telegrams.这些电文叫做电报。
2.cable特指通过海底电缆拍发的海底电报。例如:
He received a transoceanic cable from London.他收到了一封从伦敦来的越洋电报。
这些名词都有“电报”之意。
cable通常指通过海底电缆打的电报，也可指广义的电报。
telegram常用词，指通过电报系统发出的信息，尤指具体的一份份电报。
telegraph侧重指通信方式和电报业各，不可数名词，表抽象概念。
