希腊神话中，雅典娜（Athena）是奥林巴斯十二主神之一，是神王宙斯与墨提斯的女儿。据说，宙斯推翻父亲成为神王后，大地女神盖亚和天神乌拉诺斯预言他会被墨提斯所生的儿子会推翻他。宙斯害怕预言成真，就把墨提斯整个吞入肚中（被他老爸还狠）。此后宙斯头疼难忍，就叫火神劈开他的头颅。随后就见披甲持枪的雅典娜从宙斯的头中跳了出来。因为雅典娜是从宙斯的头中诞生的，所以她是智慧的象征。雅典娜还是女战神，但她与战神艾瑞斯不同，她代表了战争的智慧与计谋。
